The Berlin-Leipzig cycle path, with a total length of about 230 km, mostly runs on paved cycle paths. However, the route also runs along low-traffic state roads and cycle paths accompanying federal roads. Unpaved sections can be expected in the forests of the Dübener Heide Nature Park. All in all, the Berlin-Leipzig cycle path offers a varied and eventful ride, which can be comfortably completed in several daily stages or quickly on a weekend.

If you leave Berlin heading south, you will pass the scenic lake area between Rangsdorf and Mellensee. In Stülpe, you reach the unique Flaeming-Skate and cycle on the finest asphalt through Luckenwalde, Kloster Zinna, and Jüterbog towards Lutherstadt Wittenberg, which invites you to visit its UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Luther House, the Castle Church, the Town Church with Cranach altar, and the Melanchthon House are part of the UNESCO World Heritage and worth an extensive visit. At Wittenberg Market, the most popular German cycle paths (Elbe Cycle Path, EuroVelo) meet. Before passing through the Dübener Heide Nature Park with its extensive forests, moors, and peaceful small towns, you cross the wide Elbe floodplain. The route leads directly past the water paradise Bergwitzsee. Between the spa towns Bad Schmiedeberg, known for its peat baths, and Bad Düben, the cycle path reaches its highest point near Wurzelberg at 180 meters above sea level. Then, it continues through the North Saxon land of mills. The last section of the route leads through rural areas and water-rich park landscapes of the Leipzig New Lake District before ending in the center of the trade fair city.
