The start of this route is at the marketplace. You run past the bus stop with the Calatrava Hall and the Waaghaus, then take the Brühltor underpass. Once you reach the top, follow Museumsstrasse and then turn into Stadtpark. Enjoy the calm here. In the hospital district, take the underpass under Rorschacherstrasse, run past the children's hospital on the left and follow Falkensteinstrasse to Hagenbuchstrasse. Now the ascent begins. You go up the Tivoliweg to Speicherstrasse. Follow this towards the city to the Birnbaum staircase. Go down this to Flurhofstrasse to Molkenweg, then up a few steps to Molkenstrasse, soon turn left into Krüsistrasse, after 100 meters turn right up, follow the signpost for Spitex, then cross Speicherstrasse and climb the stairs of Brauersteig. Soon you will have the wonderful panorama towards Lake Constance behind you. At the top near Dreilinden, before the mini-golf course, turn right onto Dreilindenweg and now follow the Drei Weieren to the Gess staircase. Go down again to Speicherstrasse. Follow it into town to Rötelistrasse, go up this, soon the Hafner staircase goes off to the left. Climb this, at the top briefly along St.Georgenstrasse, then turn left up Kronbergsteig. At the top, take Buchstrasse to Mühlegg, cross St.Georgenstrasse. From here go west up Falkenburgstrasse to Fluhweg. Take these stairs down. After a few steps you come to a terraced platform with a wonderful view into the Mühlegg Gorge and towards the lake. Then continue down Fluhweg to Berneggstrasse, briefly right, then left on Felsenstrasse to Stollen Staircase, then Wall Staircase, down to Wallstrasse, turn left, then up Kapellenstrasse. Now the big challenge begins, you are on the longest staircase in the city, the Falkenburg staircase, a proud 529 steps. At the top you have a fantastic view of the Fürstenland and the Lake Constance area. You take the hiking trail west to Bernegg staircase, down this to Wassergasse. Follow this east and so return to the old town, past the cathedral back to the marketplace.

Be careful on all the stairs when it rains, especially when running downhill.
And: start slowly, all those stairs really take a toll on your legs.
