Mountain biking over roots and stones, hiking with a view of the beautiful Lake Constance, or a leisurely walk along enchanting waterfront promenades: the St.Gallen-Lake Constance region offers numerous opportunities to stay healthy, sporty, and active.
Hiking paradise St.Gallen-Lake Constance
Forests, vineyards, and lakes. At the intersection of four countries, between the lake and Säntis, in the St.Gallen-Lake Constance region everything your heart desires is there. It’s just waiting to be explored by nature lovers and excursionists. Whether on foot or by bike, the possibilities to enjoy the varied landscape are manifold. Eastern Switzerland is known as a hiking paradise. The number of routes and trails is virtually limitless. For those who prefer it leisurely, the paths along the idyllic Lake Constance shore are perfect. Especially popular is a walk along the Rorschach lake promenade. From the center, where visitors can admire stately townhouses among other things, visitors can stroll to the historic bathing hut. In summer, a jump into the water or a boat trip provides refreshment and cooling.
On the move through the vineyards
How about combining a hike with culinary delights? Then the wine hiking trail is recommended. The three-and-a-half-kilometer path through the Bernecker vineyards offers not only magnificent views but is also informative and varied. Hikers learn everything worth knowing about vineyard work along the way. There are also numerous opportunities in restaurants and wineries to taste Rheintal wines.
Explore the beauty of nature by bike
Many areas around Lake Constance can be excellently explored by bike or mountain bike. The easiest routes are along the lake shore. Those who prefer to ride over roots and stones should take a trip to Appenzell. There, picturesque views of the impressive Alpstein massif compensate for the effort. For discovery tours on inline skates, the Rhine Valley is recommended. The "Rhein Skate" between Landquart and Kreuzlingen is the most used skate route in Switzerland. The route, consisting of four stages, is perfect for a skate outing with the whole family. About 90 percent of the route runs on car-free roads – so nothing stands in the way of carefree relaxation and enjoying the impressive landscape at the four-country corner.
Sporty "stairs city"
St.Gallen is a true "stairs city" with around 13,000 steps. Climbing stairs is a simple, efficient, and inexpensive way to do everyday fitness exercises. Stair climbing is an effective fitness exercise that makes a significant health contribution to the cardiovascular system, just like a well-composed jogging session. Once at the top, a real feast for the eyes and the best view of the city of St.Gallen awaits.
