We run one of the greenest and most popular routes in Dresden: the Prießnitzgrund runs close to the stream that gives it its name and is one of the most scenic sections of the large forest area of the Dresdner Heide. The trails consist mainly of forest and gravel paths, which is particularly easy on the joints. Parts of the route take us through the flora and fauna habitat area with its species-rich flora and a variety of rare animals such as kingfishers and brook lampreys. Clearings and small bridges open up again and again. The route is close to nature, well signposted and very popular due to its proximity to the city. The route is ideal for runners in average to good physical condition - it offers moderate ascents and descents, but also longer flat sections for easy running. Those who like culture will enjoy the start not far from the Alaunpark in Dresden's Neustadt district. It is particularly pleasant in summer because the canopy of trees provides shade. On the way back, we experience the change from dense forest back to urban city proximity. The Prießnitzgrund is one of the five most beautiful jogging routes in the city and was the venue for cross-country races over 100 years ago - pure sporting tradition.
Author’s recommendation
The area around the kitchen bridge invites you to take a break - especially for nature lovers and families. In spring, marsh marigolds and irises bloom here.

From the start on Stauffenbergallee, steps or a small path lead us into the Prießnitzgrund. We follow the course of the stream upstream, passing sandstone blocks along the way and always keeping close to the stream. After approx. 20-30 minutes, we reach the so-called Küchenbrücke, an old stone bridge with a small rest area. We continue along the main path, keeping to the left (past junctions towards Heller) until we reach the junction with Marienallee, which we cross. We continue along the Prießnitz - the steepest and most pristine part of the valley can be experienced here. On the Diebsteig we walk up a longer ascent before returning to the valley floor on the Kannenhenkelweg. Various feeder paths (Marienallee/Kannenhenkelweg/Diebsteig) allow for flexible route variations. After around 8-11 km (depending on the chosen loop), we return to our starting point on Stauffenbergallee.
