The Hucul Highway is a network of marked riding routes with a total length of approximately 290 kilometres, with the main back route covering around 120 kilometres. The individual sections run along natural surfaces, forest roads, meadows and historic pastoral trails. The route is broken down into shorter stages, which allows for planning the ride according to the experience of the riders and the condition of the horses. The route connects several areas of the Muránska Plain, Horehronie and Gemer and allows for smooth multi-day transfers between different riding points.

Riding along the Huculská magistrála can be started at several points depending on the chosen section. The most frequent starting points include the Zbojská saddle, the village of Sihla, Muránska Huta or riding yards in the vicinity of Pohronská Polhora and Čierny Balog. Parking is available directly at the riding areas, ranches or at public parking lots in the villages that are connected to the main road system. Most riding yards allow you to leave your vehicle for the duration of the ride by arrangement with the operator.

    Tips and suggestions

The Hucul Highway is ideally done in cooperation with a local equestrian yard, which will provide logistics, horses and stages of the ride. The best time to ride is from spring to autumn, with the summer and early autumn months offering the best conditions and views. The ride can be combined with a visit to shepherds, traditional events or a multi-day stay in the Murano Plain region.

Along the Hucul Highway there are transfer stations and rest areas for horses and riders. Among the best known are the riding and breeding facilities at Sihla, at Chata Šopisko and in the area of the Zbojská saddle, where boxes, pens, watering troughs and overnight accommodation are available. These places serve as natural stages for multi-day rides and allow for safe rest for both horses and riders.
