Safety information
General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal uneven surfaces, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may break off. Especially in bad weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you think certain path sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forest work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there may be situations where paths are closed and we have not been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please heed the instructions for your own safety.
Slightly eroded path on the ascent.
In snow and ice, the staircase must not be used. The path leads before the monument down the slope to Neuweg street on the right, then again right and at Bergstraße left to the starting point.
Tips and suggestions
The pavilion is a shelter built by members of the Palatinate Forest Club, local group Otterberg.
On Heiligenmoschler Berg, the path continues through a sweet chestnut forest to the war memorial with views over the town of Otterberg.

Parking lot in Johannisstraße, 67697 Otterberg (opposite Gaststätte Kraus) – Johannisstraße (eastward) – Weiherstraße – Ölmühle – crossing main street (L387) – Hotel Badstube – Schellental – Badstubenhübel – Pavilion – Hahnensteig – Heiligenmoschler Berg – traffic training ground – monument – main street – Johannisstraße – parking lot in Johannisstraße, 67697 Otterberg (opposite Gaststätte Kraus).
The starting point is the parking lot in Johannisstraße where a hiking map is posted. We follow the footpath along the Otterbach through the “Weihergärten”. The path leads left at the bench up to the L 387, which must be crossed. Past Hotel Badstube, the path leads after approx. 200 m into the forest. Directly by a garden house on the left, the path branches off onto hiking trail no. 5. We follow the marking no. 2 and turn left at the fork after approx. 250 m. After an ascent of 1,200 m, we reach the pavilion. This is the turning point of the route. We continue on the path turning left. A wide path leads downhill again from the pavilion. Over a ridge path, after 1,200 m, we reach Heiligenmoschler Berg.
We encounter a large fork where we turn left. After a further 600 m with marking no. 2, we arrive at the traffic training ground. We follow the road to the monument. To the right of the monument, a narrow steep staircase and a narrow footpath between the houses lead back to Otterberg. We walk along the main street and turn left back to the starting point.
