On this approximately 7 km long circular route starting at the Naturfreundehaus Kandel, you can enjoy the very special flora and fauna of the Bienwald. This route runs through the forest without inclines and is also very suitable for inexperienced hikers. Afterwards, you can enjoy the pleasant forest atmosphere once more in the beer garden of the Naturfreundehaus and refresh yourself.

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature

    • Fire & smoking - Making fires, smoking, and barbecuing are strictly forbidden in the forest and must be avoided! Fires and thus major damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
    • Considerate behavior - Always behave with foresight, friendliness, and consideration toward everyone you meet on the way. This is especially true on service roads where vintners, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
    • Picnic & litter - Remember a trash bag for the way and take your waste back home. Use only furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
    • Nature conservation - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to not disturb the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
    • Leash dogs – Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

    Safety information

Hiking on natural paths and trails – Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Particularly under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Surefootedness is sometimes required. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should bypass them. Despite the trail markings, we recommend always carrying a suitable hiking map for safety reasons so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency. Path closures and detours must be strictly observed.

Danger situations - In an emergency, quick help is required. Although mobile phones can send GPS signals, at traditional rescue points help usually arrives fastest. These are located at places accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In case of an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when making your emergency call. This way, rescuers know where to find you.

    Tips and suggestions

    Südpfalz Tourismus Kandel e.V., Georg-Todt-Str. 2a, 76870 Kandel, Tel.: 07275/619945, info@suedpfalz-tourismus-kandel.de

"The Naturfreunde" e.V., local group Kandel : The Naturfreunde of OG Kandel are happy to take guests on their hikes through the Bienwald.

For those especially interested in forest and nature, guided tours through the Bienwald are offered:

    - Walter Tours

    - Naturführer Pfalz e.V.

    - Bienwald Forestry Office.

Those arriving by train follow the signs from Kandel station (direction Naturfreundehaus/AbenteuerPark Kandel) to Badallee and from there the corresponding trail markings.

    Roadbook

At the Naturfreundehaus Kandel, there is a board with the circular hiking routes of the Naturfreunde, OG Kandel. From the Naturfreundehaus, we follow the marking "3" (trail marking: 2 hands, next to it a "3", above red flowers). The path leads straight ahead until just before the Bienwaldstadion Kandel. Here, we continue to the right, always following the marking with the "3". After a few meters, at the Abenteuerpark Kandel, we turn right again and continue to follow the "3" until just before Langenberg. From there, the path leads back to the Naturfreundehaus Kandel.

You can also start the route at Badallee (near Abenteuerpark). Here there is an information board with circular routes 1, 2, and 3, all leading to the Naturfreundehaus. Those arriving by train follow the signs from Kandel station (direction Naturfreundehaus/AbenteuerPark Kandel) to Badallee and from there follow the corresponding trail markings.

A shortening of the route (marking hands with "2" (circular route of a total of 5 km from the Naturfreundehaus) or marking hands with "1" (circular route of a total of 4 km from the Naturfreundehaus)) is possible along the way.

    Public transport

By train to Kandel station, possibly further by bus line 547 (information at www.vrn.de, www.kvv.de , DB travel information, DB Navigator app ) on to Saarstraße, stop Kandel West, from there about 20 minutes to the Naturfreundehaus. You can also start the circular route at Badallee, walking from Kandel station about 15-20 minutes towards Abenteuerpark Kandel.

Important notice: From 24 July 2026 to 30 September 2026, DB will be carrying out construction work at Winden station. This will result in train cancellations and rail replacement bus services on lines RE6, RB51, RB53 and RB54.

It will therefore not be possible to carry bicycles between Landau and Bad Bergzabern, Karlsruhe and Wissembourg.
