Circular hiking route from Dernbach to the Eußerthal Sanatorium
The path marked D1 begins in the center of Dernbach opposite the fire station. We turn north and follow the main street, then turn left into Forststraße after the Schneider restaurant. Climbing Galgenberg in parallel with the Palatinate Wine Trail, we cross the 8th meridian until we reach the Eußerthal sanatorium. We turn right in front of the premises.
A wide path leads us south. The path branches half-left and opens wonderful views of Orensberg and the front Dernbach valley. Going downhill, we reach Teil, turn left before the edge of the town, walk above the cemetery, and return through the forest to Galgenberg. From there, we return to the starting point of the Dernbach Heights Path via the forest road and main street.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for a considerate coexistence in nature
- Always behave thoughtfully, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Take care of nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Remember a garbage bag for the way and take your rubbish back home.
- Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- For your own safety, observe all path closures, even on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

General note:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches break off. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you find certain sections impassable, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry or hunting activities on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where trails are closed without us being informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.
