arriachXtreme
The extreme hiking route leads the hiker on already existing hiking trails along the municipal boundaries around the central municipality Arriach. Along the hiking route, 6 checkpoints must be passed. The hiker has the option to choose between three variants.
Variant 1: "arriachXtreme" This requires very good fitness and endurance. All three stages must be completed within one day.
Variant 2: "arriachTrilogie" The circuit takes place in three stages, but the time period can be freely chosen.
Variant 3: "arriachGenussrunde" The extreme tour is divided over several days with overnight stays in the Geiger hut on the Wöllaner Nock and on the Gerlitzen.
The hike along the municipal boundary of Arriach is very varied and also includes crossing the two local mountains of Arriach, Wöllaner Nock (2145 m) and the Gerlitzen (1911 m). Upon registration, the hiker receives a starter package consisting of a backpack, a lanyard with ticket, two drink vouchers, and a muesli bar. Additionally, there is a route description, route data, and a hiking map.
After a successful hike, the participant receives a valuable SIGG water bottle and an entry in the success list on the homepage depending on the selected variant.
Registration fee for all three variants: € 20,-- (excluding overnight stays)
Of course, the hiking route arriachXtreme can also be walked at any time without registration (without starter package)!
This extremely long and demanding hiking route begins and ends at the village square of Arriach. Choosing the Xtreme variant requires covering about 56 km of trail and about 3400 meters of elevation gain within one day! The trail first leads optionally via the road or the farm hiking trail into the village of Wöllan, from where after a short descent you reach hiking path 166 and follow it to the summit of Wöllaner Nock. Here, the panoramic view, with clear visibility, reaches as far as Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner. Then, the descent passes by the Walder hut to the Geiger hut, where you can also treat yourself culinarly. After a short ascent to the "Plagrast" you turn east and hike to the municipal boundary to Himmelberg, before choosing the descent to the Buschenschenke Mölgis and further down to the valley to the historic Klösterle. Then follows the strenuous ascent to the Erlebnisberg Gerlitzen Alpe, which annually attracts numerous hikers and paragliders. After that, the descent leads via Buchholz back to Arriach, completing the circuit.
Upon presentation of the fully validated ticket, the Xtreme hiker receives a high-quality SIGG water bottle with logo and Xtreme lettering. Successful participants are also listed on the official website of the municipality www.arriach.at. The handing over point is for the Xtreme hikers at the Alte Point inn and for the arriachTrilogie and arriachGenussrunde participants at the municipal office.

1st stage:
After the hiker has purchased the starter package at the municipal office or at the Spar market on the village square, they leave the village heading west past the Church of the Four Evangelists and reach the Wöllan-Laastadt fork after about 500 meters. Follow the road towards Wöllan for about 40 m and arrive at the Haslerweg junction. From here, one can take a faster route via the municipal road to the Walcherhof farm entrance junction. The more interesting but slightly longer route leads through the forest along the farm hiking trail towards Wöllan, first to the Gallerhof farm and at the end of the farm driveway, gently sloping left down to the road to Oberwöllan. After a few meters uphill, you reach the Walcherhof farm driveway and follow it to the homestead. The path runs past the barn to the turnoff towards Dreihofen. Follow the sign for path 166, also stickers with the midpoint logo and Xtreme lettering until an overpass. From here the path goes downhill again to a fork where you turn right towards Graben. Cross the watercourse and follow the path straight ahead to a pasture fence, which also marks the municipal boundary to the municipality of Afritz am See. The path leads steeply uphill directly along the fence about 80 meters to a meadow, which you cross diagonally uphill and via an overpass reach hiking path 166. Following the marking of path 166, the ascent begins towards Wöllaner Nock.
After a short ascent, you reach the Düregger farm, where the first checkpoint with the letter "X" is located. The ticket is validated at the letter "X", and the ascent continues via path 166 to the village of Oberwöllan, leading further to Oberwöllan municipal road. Uphill to the right, follow the road to the Obkircher farm. From here, the hiker has two options again. Either follow the road route towards the toll road for about 600 m to the junction with the sign for path 166, or walk past the Obkircher farm towards Mahr farm, leaving the path at the farm and going directly uphill along the fence towards the forest edge, following the beautiful but steep forest path with old markings. Reaching a heavily used forest road, turn right and follow it to the intersection with path 166. Follow this lovely hiking trail to the Wöllaner Almstall, where the tree line has been reached and the last ascent to the summit of Wöllaner Nock (2145 m) begins.
Attached to the summit cross, you find the container with the summit book and the hole punch (second checkpoint) with the letter "T". Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view briefly, and leave the summit plateau on path 163 towards Walder hut.
Upon reaching the Walder hut, the path leads steeply downhill directly past the building towards the Geiger hut, which can already be seen at some distance. At the Geiger hut is the third checkpoint "R". Inside the hut, you get the daily stamp and can redeem a drink voucher.
2nd stage:
Either via the old path, a little steeper uphill, or more comfortably along the road you reach after a few minutes the mighty ridge called "Plagrast". Now begins a beautiful and relaxing section on path 164 heading east over the "Buchskopf" and "Dürrer Baum" to the junction to Gnesau. From here follow the Xtreme and Buschenschenke Ölgis signs towards Innerteuchen. At Hoferalm, the municipal boundary to Himmelberg is reached, and follow the well-marked hiking trail to the Ölgis farm, where the checkpoint with the letter "E" is located. From here, briefly follow the municipal road downhill, after the bend turn right onto the "Buschenschankweg". After crossing a stream, you reach a forest road on which you go downhill for a short time to the state road and cross it immediately. Next to the state road runs the fitness trail, on which you follow the path towards the Arriach-Gerlitzen hiking center.
3rd stage:
At the valley station of the Klösterle cable cars begins the approx. 900 m climb to the summit of the Gerlitzen (1911m). The Xtreme hiker chooses the ascent via the ski slope, while the path variant leads hikers to the Buschenschenke Steinacher and the root park, crossing the slope several times to the summit. Upon reaching the Erlebnisberg Gerlitzen, you receive the second daily stamp at the Gerlitzen summit house and after a refreshing drink, leave the summit on path 1771 towards Stifterboden, where the hiker meets the well-marked Alpe-Adria trail. Continue westwards to the Steinernen Tisch and to the Hinterbuchholzer hut. Here at the gable side of the utility building is the last checkpoint "M". From here, the descent begins exclusively via path 109 to the village of Hinterbuchholz and continues via the state road to Arriach.
