The Schmunzelweg leads about 1.5 km through the vineyards. Along the way, steles with Palatine poems and jokes invite you to smile.
The path starts at the end of Kanskircher Straße, opposite the sports field. There is also an information board marking the start of the Schmunzelweg. From the board, the path goes right uphill. You immediately spot the first stele on the left side of the path. After a few meters, you reach a fork and follow the path uphill through the vineyards to the left. After a few meters, there is a resting spot with a lovely view of Albersweiler. At the end of the climb, there is another resting spot at the Albersweiler barrel with a view of Trifels. Here, the path turns right. At the next fork, turn right again toward Albersweiler. Going downhill, there is another resting spot on the left side. After that, the Schmunzelweg turns right, above the Löwensteinhalle, back to the starting point.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature
- Always behave considerately, kindly, and attentively toward everyone you meet on the way.
- Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Remember a garbage bag for the way and take your waste back home with you.
- Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will appreciate it.
- For your own safety, observe all path closures, including on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave room for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.
Author’s recommendation
The route is also suitable for strollers, as the path is short, fairly flat except for the first ascent, and mostly paved.

General information:
Especially in autumn, it is important to note that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches can break off afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery in places. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in some sections. You must expect these kinds of path impairments when starting a hike. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should bypass them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, there may be situations where paths are closed, and we have not been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or diversion, please heed the instructions for your own safety.
