UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature

    • Fires & Smoking - Making fires, smoking and grilling are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be avoided! Fires and thus major damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
    • Be considerate - Always behave considerately, friendly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
    • Nature conservation - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest, so as not to disturb nocturnal animals' rhythms.
    • Picnic & Waste - Remember a trash bag for the way and take your waste back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
    • Dogs on a leash - Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

We definitely recommend taking a topographic hiking map at a scale of 1:25,000. The State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation Rhineland-Palatinate provides maps for the entire Palatinate Forest Nature Park. The following maps are required for all trekking sites:

Nature Park, Palatinate Forest Sheet 1 (Sites 9,10) or Sheet 2 (Sites 8,9,10) as well as Sheet 8 (Sites 1,2,3,4) and Sheet 6 (Sites 5,6,7), Sheet 4 (Sites 13,14).

    Roadbook

The tour starts at the station in Bad Bergzabern. Then walk to the castle and turn left into Torgasse, then follow the Bad-Bergzabener-Landweg for about 2.5 km until you reach the fork in the trail in front of the Park Clinic. There, leave the Bad-Bergzabener-Landweg and take the left branch instead. After about 500 m, follow the white triangle for about 2.7 km until you reach the Palatinate Wine Trail. Turn right there and follow the Chapel Pilgrim Trail for 1 km to the next junction. Turn right there and follow the Palatinate Wine Trail about 1.3 km to the "Drei Eichen" hiking parking lot. Keep in mind that you still have to walk another 2.2 km to Site 1.

    Equipment

Because the trekking sites on the Southern Wine Route are somewhat off the towns and common hiking trails, you should of course also carry the appropriate trekking equipment with you.

Here we want to give you a little reminder of what should not be missing in your backpack:
Clothing/Rain protection:  All-weather suitable clothing is always an advantage - even on the sunny Southern Wine Route it can unfortunately rain.
Sleeping: Your backpack should include - tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, bivy sack, or other...
Food: Drinking bottle and/or thermos, stove including fuel and provisions, cutlery/dishes, can opener, lighter, pocket knife, pots and water container, garbage bags
Washing: Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, towel, comb, razor...
Emergency/Health: Personal medications, first aid kit, cough drops, insect repellent, tick tweezers, sun protection, mobile phone, emergency numbers and ID
Orientation: GPS device, maps, binoculars, compass, travel guide
Luxury: Books, games and entertainment for a cozy time around the campfire
Refreshments: Many different dining options in the nearby towns. Huts of the Palatinate Forest Club and the Nature Friends are generally open on weekends and public holidays (sometimes also on Wednesdays). You need to bring your own water.
With a small grill rack or even a foldable camping grill, you could create a great meal over the campfire. But sausages grilled on a stick also taste excellent in nature...
Other: Camera, toilet paper, lock, flashlight, batteries,

And of course, you should always have your booking confirmation for the trekking sites on the Southern Wine Route in your backpack....
