Simbergweg - Wurbauerkogel
Variant 1: Directly from the town center of Windischgarsten, you first take an asphalt road up to the access area of the former chairlift (no longer in operation since 2025). From there, stairs lead to a gravel footpath going up to the water reservoir. After a few minutes, you reach the Simberg meadow. From the meadow, you first continue on a forest road and finally reach the trail marked with number 2 up to the summit station of Wurbauerkogel.
Variant 2: From the marketplace Windischgarsten, follow the path to the valley station of the former chairlift Wurbauerkogel (no longer in operation since 2025) and continue on Kühbergstraße to the pavilion, where you turn left and follow the street. At the right fork, proceed onto trails number 5 and 2 to the summit station.

At the southwestern edge of the Nationalpark Kalkalpen is the Pyhrnbahn railway. It runs from Linz to Selzthal and represents an important north-south axis. Relevant stations for National Park visitors are Klaus, Steyrling, Hinterstoder, Roßleithen, and Windischgarsten. Nowadays, express trains run hourly with few exceptions between Linz and Spital am Pyhrn or Selzthal. This dense express service is further enhanced by four intercity connections between Graz and Linz with stops in Windischgarsten.
