Winter wine pilgrimage in the Freinsheim holiday region
Three wine cooperatives and associations serve as "pilgrimage stations" along this varied circular hike through the Berntal/Felsenberg nature reserve and the vineyards with interesting viewpoints.
Vineyard circular walk on asphalted service roads and partly unpaved sections with only a few inclines.
You can get the pilgrim pass stamped at the pilgrimage stations during the tasting of a wine.
Author’s recommendation
During and after the pilgrimage, the diverse gastronomy of the wine villages in the Freinsheim holiday region is open to you.

Safety information
The route often runs on so-called service roads. These are used for agricultural purposes and are driven all year round by tractors and harvesters. We point out that using these paths is at your own risk and ask for mutual consideration in the interest of all. The service roads can be dirty due to agricultural traffic. After rainy days and especially in winter the paths can be wet and slippery.

Roadbook
Start at the Place of 100 Wines, along the "Riesling hiking trail" heading north to Felsenberg/Berntal. Here some steps lead down into the valley cut of the bird protection area (black and white sign with a bird motif), which you hike through to the left. Below, you pass the rock formations of the limestone cliffs and rare flora to Leistadt at the Weidenhof parking lot. Here you cross the L517, turn right and follow the first path (red bar, hiking trail Neuleiningen-Bad Dürkheim) through the vineyards northwards towards Weisenheim am Berg.
You reach Weisenheim am Berg via Plauser Street, turn right at Karl-Gayer Street and see on the left at the end the Wine House at Sonnenberg in Leistadt Street (1st pilgrimage station). After the tasting, you return along Leistadt Street towards the town exit.
At the pedestrian crossing, you change sides and stay on the right side of the parking lot. At the end of the parking lot, turn left onto the service road and follow it for about 300 meters. Then sharp left, after another 50 meters sharp right and straight ahead to the next intersection. Here turn left and walk past the wine shop at Felsenberg on the right and after about 200m sharp left again. All the time you have a wonderful view over the Rhine Plain.
The service road now leads you to the wine cooperative Herxheim am Berg, the 3rd pilgrimage station. From here you can make a detour to the Herxheim castle garden next to St. Jakob’s Church – the balcony of the Freinsheim holiday region with seating under old trees and a great view of the Rhine Plain.
The last stage now takes you back to Kallstadt. Below the wine cooperative cross the street and walk about 75m after leaving the town to the left down into the vineyards. After another 100m right and the next junction immediately right again towards the Wine Route. On the roadside turn left towards Kallstadt. You will come across the marking of the Burgundy path (wine barrel) and follow it straight south. At the town entrance, turn sharp right, after the cemetery left and then right over the cemetery street to the Wine Route. The 4th and last pilgrimage station, the Kallstadt wine cooperative, is immediately to the left on the German Wine Route.
