Extremely challenging hike with many meters of altitude gain, narrow paths, and steep descents.
***Pre-announcement of a closure on the ZweiTälerSteig & Wildbach tour
In October, forestry measures were announced affecting the ZweiTälerSteig on the second stage as well as the Wildbach tour between Hintereck and Spitzer Stein on the Wildsau path. The exact date of the closure and detour options will be announced here shortly.***
Far back in the Simonswald valley, where foxes and wild boars say good night to each other, are the wildest spots of the ZweiTälerLand. Zweribach waterfalls, Teich gorge, Spitzer Stein, Hintereck are magical names that make the hearts of hiking friends from the region beat faster. And the Hintereck snack bar, a former farmhouse over 200 years old, is also one of the coziest snack bars in the Black Forest.

Roadbook
If you want to visit this hut, you must be sure-footed. You can expect deep gorges, rocky paths, and steep descents, magnificent views, wild streams. And – at least on weekends and public holidays – a hearty snack with legendary Black Forest ham. That will restore your strength.
Because before you reach Hintereck, you’ll be sweating a lot. But it’s well worth the effort! It starts off gently at Gasthaus Engel in Obersimonswald. You follow the Wild Gutach valley upstream. Pretty valley meadows, scattered alders. The brook flows peacefully. Behind the historic building of the Obertal power plant the valley narrows. The path leaves the valley floor. The Wild Gutach flows louder.
Then the entry into the Teich gorge. Fascinated, you pause and feel like you are in another world. Debris. Man-high boulders. All thickly overgrown with moss. You take in the wild romantic charm with all your senses and hardly notice how the path keeps ascending.
With primeval force, the Teichbach leaps and rushes downhill, forming countless small waterfalls. Slowly and respectfully, you climb upward. Under a huge rock block the path branches to the rock sea and to Hintereck.
The last 100 meters of altitude before the hut. The slope seems almost vertical. Every step demands your strength, challenges you. The snack bar lies enticingly above. Motivating sayings on every zig-zag hairpin turn. “So, have you sweated?”
At the top then: ice-cold spring water on hot skin. Magnificent view over the Simonswald valley. You have truly earned the hearty snack.
On the steep slope, the "Wildsauweg" leads to Spitzen Stein. Pointed rocks in dense mountain forest – with a view. Most of it is done. But caution: The steep descent to Saulache below can be quite slippery when wet. One last swing brings you into the Kilpenbach valley, where you finish the hike on the gently descending Kilpen road.
