The romantic holiday and wine village of Dörrenbach, called "Sleeping Beauty of the Palatinate," was awarded the most beautiful village on the Wine Route in 1975. The officially recognized recreational resort with 1,000 inhabitants is one of our most popular holiday destinations, close to the Wine Route yet magically quiet. Perhaps first wander through the picturesque village center with half-timbered houses, a magnificent Renaissance-style town hall, the medieval fortified church - and several cozy wine taverns. In Dörrenbach, 40 km of the most beautiful hiking trails await you: through sweet chestnut and mixed forests, over sunny vineyards, to the Kolmerberg chapel and the Stäffelsberg, with wonderful views. You have a choice of hiking trails from the "Palatinate Wine Trail" to quality hiking trails around the village: Path of Views, Sleeping Beauty Circular Route, Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Trail. Afterwards, treat yourself to a stop at one of the cozy Dörrenbach wine taverns! www.doerrenbach.de
Health Tip: Hiking Shoes for Children
If you go hiking with the whole family, not only adults but also children should wear hiking shoes: children's hiking shoes have a significantly grippier sole than sneakers, which reduces the risk of slipping on leaves, roots, or muddy paths. They are also mostly water-repellent or even waterproof and can therefore withstand short encounters with small puddles or streams.
Hiking shoes with a slightly lower shaft are robust all-rounders suitable not only for hiking but also for other outdoor activities. Those planning hikes in alpine terrain should equip children and adolescents with hiking shoes that have a higher shaft and additionally stabilize the ankles.
Important when buying: younger children, due to their still immature nervous system in the feet, do not feel whether a shoe actually fits. It is helpful to remove the insole when trying on and place the child's foot on it. This way you can see if the shoe is too tight or too wide. Since the foot slides forward when walking downhill, there should still be about one centimeter of space between the longest toe and the end of the insole.
