The well-marked planet trail, marked with Saturn, leads from its starting point in Heiligenmoschel to the Reiserberg in Schallodenbach. With its 360° panoramic view, it offers a fantastic viewpoint. A special app explains every ridge visible from there. The approx. 7 km circular route with 165 meters of elevation is easy to walk. The planet trail represents the solar system at a scale of 1:1.4 billion. All planets near the Earth are presented in a model and positioned along the path at scaled distances. The highlight of the trail is the walkable sundial with its 12 mighty obelisks, where the time is shown by an oversized metal rod. Each obelisk represents a local municipality within the collective municipality and is assigned to a geological era. Information boards explain exactly what happened in that geological era here.
Health tip: Get vitamin D
Vitamin D is the only vitamin our body can produce itself. The only requirement: sunlight.
From April to September, it is vitamin D season in Germany. A deficiency of this vitamin can weaken bones and muscles. Therefore, keep your face, décolleté, hands, and forearms uncovered for a daily sunbath. Five to 25 minutes are enough, even with cloudy skies. The duration depends on skin type – the lighter, the shorter. You should definitely avoid sunburn!

Valuable safety tips for hiking trails can be found in the section "Short & Sweet".
General note:
Especially in autumn, be aware that leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees can still fall or branches drop afterwards. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery in places. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is sometimes required. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you believe that certain sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
Tips and suggestions
The planet trail complements the North Palatinate e-bike high-altitude cycle route and shows the distance ratios in our solar system with the planets in relation to each other. All planets are displayed and explained on signs along the way. The path leads up to the Reiserberg to the walkable sundial. The information boards in German and English are equipped with QR codes and explain the planets in the solar system. Since the planet trail can be walked from both sides of the circular path, the description and purpose of the planet trail are also described on two starting info boards. Seating groups and a wellness lounger make an impressive break at this magical place unforgettable. In Heiligenmoschel, Erdmannshof, a farm café open in summer months, and the restaurant "Alt Schul" invite you to a relaxing rest. In Schallodenbach, the Pizzeria Schlemmerscheune is available for you.
