Discover the charm of the Bruchbach-Otterbachniederung nature reserve with its still untouched landscape form at the edge of the enchanting Bienwald.
From your starting point at the Bauernwaldhütte of the Palatinate Forest Association Rheinzabern, you repeatedly immerse yourself in the lush and shady green of this charming landscape. From March you can experience the wild garlic fields in full bloom. Along the way, you come across a memorial stone that draws attention to the facility of a Roman bath, which was uncovered and covered again at this spot in 1855. Another memorial stone on your hike is the so-called General's grave to commemorate former battles on the Schweinheimer field.
Health tip: recovery for stressed eyes
Hiking or walking in nature is also good for the eyes. Thanks to the oxygen in the air, the cornea of the eye, which cannot supply itself with oxygen, recovers. Walking stimulates circulation, which improves overall blood flow, including that of the eyes. The opportunity to let your eyes wander and thus automatically train different viewing distances strengthens visual acuity and visual behavior. Further tips for healthy eyes and eye relaxation exercises can be found here.

Roadbook
At the starting point on Rappengasse there is a starting board for the Otterbachbruchweg. Here we begin our hike and follow the green-blue marking of the path on which the course of the stream and the floor plan of the Roman bath located by the path are drawn into the forest. After about 120 m the path first turns left, after about 400 m we reach a crossroads. Here we can decide whether to follow the marking to the right or continue straight ahead. We go straight ahead, and after a short distance on the straight path, it goes left into a trail. We follow the path, turn left, cross the railway tracks and finally reach the L540 country road. We pass underneath it through the underpass and walk on the other side towards the south. After about 300 m it turns left again into the forest. After 300 m it is recommended to take a detour to the right to the memorial stone of the buried Roman bath. Back on the path, we continue to follow the marking, which leads us out of the forest and through fields and meadow landscape. Another memorial stone to the "General's grave" recalls a former battle between French revolutionary troops and Austria. After the "General's grave" the path runs back into the forest. In the forest, we turn left towards Jockgrim. The hiking trail runs along the Otterbach stream until we reach the L540 country road again at the entrance to the municipality of Jockgrim. We cross the country road, enter Buchstraße and then turn left into "Untere Buchstraße". Then we go right into the street "In den Gruben" and follow it to the end. We pass underneath the railway tracks and follow the marking to the right into the forest. We follow the path, which runs along the stream all the time, to the district road. There we turn right, walk a short distance on the sidewalk along the road before immediately turning right again onto a path into the forest. We follow the path until we reach a crossroads at a rest area, where we can relax comfortably once again before tackling the last section. We follow the marking, turn right about 300 m after the rest area, and finally return to the crossroads where the path is marked in three directions and this time turn left back to the starting point and the parking lot.
