The start and finish of this circular hike full of many highlights is the Belmontplatz in Erfweiler. After the ascent, you have a breathtaking view over the Wasgau from the Hahnfelsen. The hike continues to the bizarre Schafstein rock, popular among climbers. On the Kahlenberg, you will then enjoy an impressive view of the Alt-Dahn castle complex, which the path later passes by. Here you should plan some time for a thorough exploration of the castle site. The route leads further through the Langenthal towards Erfweiler. A particularly beautiful place to rest is the romantic landscape pond. Afterwards, enjoy refreshing spring water or stop at the waterfall. This revitalizes you for the last stretch back to the starting point.

The starting point of the premium route "Hahnfels Route" is Belmontplatz (village square) in the center of the small village Erfweiler. From here, the path takes you past the church over a stairway to a trail up to Hahnberg with the Hahnfelsen. Here, you have a wonderful view of Erfweiler and over the Wasgau – an ideal place for a first break and a picnic.
The path continues in the direction of Glastalblick, then down into the Bärenbrunnen valley. Passing the hidden Heegerturm, you continue to the Breitenbach spring. There is a rest area with fresh spring water here, also ideal for a longer break. From the spring, you climb up to the Schafstein rocks, a bizarre and bulky Buntsandstein rock formation, where climbers often gather. Past the rocks, the path then leads up to the next panoramic point, the Kahlenberg. From here, you have a great view of the Alt-Dahn castle complex.
Now hike over the ridge towards Schindhard, the neighboring community, to the Wasgau view, the next viewpoint inviting to a break with views of Schindhard, Dahn-Reichenbach, and the Drachfels castle ruins near Busenberg. After a short rest, follow a path downhill to the Schindhard sports field. From here, the hiking trail leads past the Fischwoog mill and an old brick kiln uphill over K 39 to the "Alt-Dahn" castle complex. The Dreiburg is the largest castle complex in the Palatinate and features a small but fine museum. A visit to the castle is always worthwhile. Below the castle ruins, the small castle tavern invites you to rest in the shade of old trees.
The path then leads further over the Löfels rock, again with a view of Erfweiler, back in the direction of the starting point of the hike. First, follow the path slightly downhill to the hidden cave at Zimmerberg. Now walk down below the Zimmerfels rock to the village view and the Hebelfelsen. Here you can shorten the route via Friedhofstraße or stop at the Jägerhof in the village center of Erfweiler.
If you still have enough energy and decide against the shortcut, continue hiking at the edge of Erfweiler through the adjacent forest towards the Kneipp facility and from there to the charcoal kiln site with a shelter. The route now runs on flat terrain through the Langenthal towards the landscape pond. At the landscape pond, you can rest again, relax, and enjoy nature.
Now the path continues over the Lover’s path to the spring Eibach, embedded in the rock. Here you can take a short break and enjoy fresh spring water. Then follow a trail to the Erfweiler waterfall. Over the Dickkopf path, you then hike back to the village, which you reach again at the Michael chapel. From here, go past the hotel "Kleine Blume" on the sidewalk (a dining option with a nice terrace) back to the starting point of the route.
