Starting from the St. Sebastian's Chapel near Wertach, we hike a sunny circular route along many meadows and pastures. We circle around the "Hochvogel," a 990 m high, rather inconspicuous elevation with a famous namesake in the Allgäu Alps. On wide, easy paths, we overcome about 130 meters of altitude. This circular hike is therefore perfectly suited for a relaxed afternoon walk. Our route takes us through the two small hamlets of Enthalb der Ach and Vorderreute. We also pass the Wertachtal fish farm. On certain dates in summer, the fish farm can be visited during a guided tour followed by a fish meal.
The starting point of the hike is the St. Sebastian's Chapel. There has been a chapel at this site for over 500 years. It is said to have been built from the stones of the nearby "Schlossbichel" castle. Since 1511, when the plague raged in the region, Saint Sebastian has been venerated here as the patron saint against the plague. The current chapel was consecrated in 1763. Its choir and the ornate interior design are reminiscent of the famous Wieskirche, which has earned the Sebastian Chapel the nickname "Little Wies".
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to extend the route a bit can also hike from Vorderreute to Hinterreute and return to the St. Sebastian's Chapel from there. Another option is to continue from Vorderreute to the Alpe Untere Reuterwanne or the Reuterwanne alpine inn for a pleasant stop.

From the St. Sebastian's Chapel near Wertach, we start hiking towards Vorderreute. At the crossroads, we take the left path and arrive at the Wertach district of Enthalb der Ach. Shortly before the B310 overpass, we continue left towards Vorderreute. After about 200 m, we turn right onto a field path, passing a fish farm and crossing meadows to Vorderreute. In the village, we keep left, turn left after the last houses, and then take the right field path at the crossroads. The path leads us north back to our starting point, the St. Sebastian's Chapel.
