You will walk along pleasant paths through various communal and state forests, rich with the most beautiful pines in Europe: the Scots pines of Wangenbourg, in the heart of the largest forest massif in the Vosges.
Discovering an artificial waterfall resulting from diverting the Ziegbach by the Mencke rock with a hydraulic system that supplies it.
This feature does not detract from the magic of the place. In the second part of the route, panels will guide your steps and explain the life of the forest.

Roadbook
From the parking lot, follow the red easel signposting along the narrow paved road.
After the bridge, take the wide forest path that goes up to the left. 1 km further on, the top of the Mencke waterfall (shelter) is reached. Continue straight ahead to the next fork. On the left side is the Ziegbach fountain.
Stay on the red easel trail that goes straight up along the stream, just before the fountain. About 20 minutes later, on the left, is the retention basin that feeds the waterfall.
About 100 m further, turn immediately left, pass near the Ziegbrunnen spring which pours its water into the basin (down to the left). Continue straight ahead, cross the forest path to reach the Heidenschloss shelter.
From this shelter, continue along the trail still marked with the red easel leading to the Rotfels picnic area with a view towards Wangenbourg Castle and the Schneeberg massif in the background.
Take the left path marked with a yellow cross that descends to Freudeneck. Upon reaching the road, immediately turn left and pass by the Freudeneck inn.
Facing the departmental road, follow to the left the GR 534 (Stanislas-Kléber) trail marked with a red diamond. This trail re-joins the road after 1 km. Cross the D 224 to reach the parking lot of the Grentzbrunnel fountain.
To the right of the fountain, climb the path marked with a blue ring; this is the forest discovery circuit marked with information panels, which you must follow to return to the starting point.
The return circuit first passes near the Menche cave then the Castelberg. A little further on is the Bischofslaeger Forest House. After this, turn left to reach the hut of the 3 foresters with its chimney and picnic area. Continue on the trail still marked with the blue ring which takes you back to the starting point after 2.5 km.
