Discover around Eicherscheid the untouched stream valleys of Holz-, Belgen- and Drosselbach, which have been placed under nature protection due to the presence of rare animal and plant species and offer a special landscape experience.
The approximately 7-kilometer hike starts at the St. Lucia church in Eicherscheid, built in 1933. The picturesque village lies amid centuries-old field hedges and also has a lot of charm within. Listed half-timbered houses, which hide behind meter-high house protection hedges from the sharp Eifel wind, small chapels, and wayside crosses shape the village centre.
You leave the idyllic Eifel village heading west and immediately immerse yourself in the impressive and landscape-defining field hedge landscape around the village.
Soon you reach the first flowing water, the Holzbach, and follow the lively mountain stream until it flows into the Belgenbach. From here, the path follows the stream valley southwards and you walk through a beautiful natural mixed forest area, which is under nature protection due to the presence of numerous rare animal and plant species. On the way you pass the Belgenbach mill, considered the oldest grain milling complex in the Monschau region.
Further along, you will come across the Alsdorf miner's cross, which commemorates the mining accident on October 29, 1930.
Afterwards, you follow the Drosselbach northwards and, accompanied by the babbling of the stream, it goes back to Eicherscheid. Shortly before reaching the village, the trees thin out again and you can once more take in the beauty of the field hedge landscape before the path leads you back to the starting point.
