This circular route is short but varied and rewarding. It offers many different paths in a small area. Dense forest and an almost alpine scree zone are traversed.
The path is named after its builder Camillo Zanolli, who also participated in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The outbound route mostly runs through forest. On the way back, it goes through the dry slopes below the Castelez, where a large variety of plants grow. Even dwarf pines reach down here at 1300 m. The view over the Zoldo basin to Moiazza, Civetta and Pelmo becomes ever more magnificent.
Author’s recommendation
Thanks to the south-facing location, it is also easily doable in early spring and late autumn.

Tips and suggestions
In Val di Zoldo many people speak German. The valley is the stronghold of ice cream makers – many ice cream parlors in Germany were founded by residents of the valley.
Roadbook
After a few steps towards the forest, we reach a signpost (489, 491). We follow route 491 towards Casera Fagarè. After 100m, route 489 branches off to the left uphill to Casera Castelin. But we continue straight ahead on number 491 to the east. After about 1 km, we reach the first viewpoint where the trees clear the view – also looking back. After about 2.5 km (0:45 h), a path branches off to the left uphill. We follow it uphill and arrive at the forest clearing with Casera die Fagarè (1103 m).
Passing the hut on the left, we re-enter the forest to a fork in the path. We take the path to the right (Belvedere, Pra da Val), uphill to the rock faces of the Castelez. The vegetation becomes sparser and changes to shrubs. The view of the Zoldo basin improves continuously. After the highest point of the hike, we descend again into the forest. Our path meets the path coming down from Casera Castelin. We follow this path to the left, pass Pra de Val, and return to the starting point.
