You walk for a long stretch on a dirt road, overlooking the wild Barbaira Valley, a tributary of the Nervia Valley.
Author’s recommendation
Mount Abellio and Cima Tramontina constitute the extreme southern limit of alpine hare and chamois populations. The peak of Mount Abellio, situated in an isolated position and characterized by very steep slopes, was the site of a castellaro in pre-Roman times. In the Middle Ages a castle was built there, destroyed in the 13th century, of which remnants of the walls remain.
