A walk along this route takes you to an open meadow, where you will have a view of the magnificent Julian Alps.
The walk starts in front of the Tourist Information Center Kranjska Gora. The route leads left towards hotel Lipa. At the first intersection, turn right (just before hotel Lipa). The path takes us to the bus station and continues along the left side of a residential building behind the stop towards the Jesenice − Rateče main road. We cross the main road and the Sava Dolinka river. We go straight along a wide unpaved path past the Eco camp Natura. The path leads us under the cliffs and then across meadows (Stan) towards Podkoren. Before crossing a dry streambed, on the right, we see a wooden house. The path continues along the dry streambed and past the mentioned house. The path rises and joins a forest road. Here we turn left and slowly reach the Suhelj stream, which we cross, and then to the road leading to Korensko sedlo. We also cross this road and descend on the old asphalt road into the village, all the way to its center with an exceptionally beautiful village core. In Podkoren, you can see the World Cup alpine skiing track and a memorial plaque to the famous naturalist and inventor Sir Humphry Davy.

Alpine VillageSafety information
The following recommendations have been prepared by mountaineering associations to ensure the activity is carried out as safely as possible.
1. Building fitness
Hiking and mountaineering are endurance sports that strain the heart and accelerate blood circulation, so hikers and mountaineers must be healthy and able to realistically assess their abilities. Do not rush; choose a pace for walking that ensures no one in the group is exhausted.
2. Careful planning
Maps, guides, the internet, and experts can inform you about length, elevation difference, difficulty of the route, and current conditions. Always choose routes according to the group’s abilities. Pay special attention to the weather forecast, as wind, rain, and cold increase accident risk.
3. Complete equipment
Adapt your equipment appropriately to the planned hike; your backpack should not be too heavy. Always carry protection against rain, cold, and sun in your backpack, as well as a first aid kit and a mobile phone (emergency number in Europe: 112). Use maps and GPS for orientation.
4. Suitable footwear
Stable hiking or mountain boots protect the foot, reduce strain on it, and improve grip while walking. When choosing footwear, make sure boots fit perfectly, have soles with good grip, are waterproof, and lightweight.
5. A reliable step is key
Falls due to slipping or tripping are the most common causes of accidents. Note that too fast a walking pace or fatigue greatly affect the certainty of your step and your concentration. Watch out for falling rocks! Careful walking will help you avoid triggering rockfalls!
6. Stay on marked paths
On unmarked paths, there is a greater risk of getting lost, as well as increased risk of falls and rockfalls. Avoid shortcuts. If you realize you have strayed, return to the last place where you were sure of your location. Steep slopes with old snow are often underestimated but are very dangerous and you can easily slip on them.
7. Regular breaks
Regular breaks allow hikers and mountaineers to recover and enjoy the landscape and company. Eat and drink regularly to maintain your strength and concentration. Isotonic drinks are ideal for quenching thirst.
8. Responsibility for children
It is very important for children to discover the landscape in a fun and varied way. On sections of the path where there is a risk of falling, one experienced adult should look after each child. Very demanding hikes requiring prolonged concentration are not suitable for children.
9. Smaller groups
Smaller groups are more flexible and allow members to help each other. Everyone in your group should be informed about the hiking goal and the path in both directions. The group should stay together. Solo hikers beware: even a minor accident may require serious rescue.
10. Respect for nature and environment
Protect the natural environment. Do not leave trash behind, stay on the path, do not disturb wild or domestic animals, do not touch plants, and respect protected areas. Use public transport or ensure the most optimal use of personal vehicles.
