Through the Landscapes of Val Alba to the G. Bianchi Shelter
The trail, classified as E (hiking), follows well-marked paths and requires a minimum level of fitness due to the elevation gain, though it does not present any particular technical difficulties. From the Reserve’s parking lot, the trail initially descends toward the Alba stream, then climbs the opposite slope along a long stretch through the woods.
The ascent continues through an increasingly open and panoramic setting, amid beech forests, clearings, and glimpses of the imposing cliffs that make Val Alba famous. One gets the impression of gradually entering a secluded area, where human presence gives way to nature and the vast mountain landscapes.
In the final section of the route, the mule trail crosses a distinctive ledge carved into the rock—which is slightly exposed—and leads to the broad Cjavâlz basin, a bright and open area where the G. Bianchi Bivouac stands at an elevation of 1,712 meters. From here, the view sweeps across the surrounding peaks and valleys, offering a panorama that more than makes up for the climb.
The bivouac, nestled in a setting of great natural beauty, is an ideal destination for those who wish to experience the mountains in a peaceful environment away from the more crowded trails. The diversity of the landscapes traversed, combined with the beauty of the destination, makes this hike one of the most representative experiences of Val Alba.
