👣 From Wilhelmsdorf to Kirchmöser. 👣

The point-to-point hike leads through the Gränert nature reserve, right outside the gates of the city Brandenburg an der Havel. Along the way, typical landscapes of the Mark Brandenburg follow each other in quick succession, making the hike a varied nature experience. 🍃

You start at the forest edge of Wilhelmsdorf and first walk through sparse pine forest to Neue Mühle. The former watermill is now a popular excursion destination with beer garden, animal enclosure, and playground. The new building, by film producer Horst Wendlandt from 1996, visually aligns with the old watchtower from the 15th century. The former mill ponds are a hotspot for passionate anglers. 🎣

The little river Buckau lives up to its name (Slavic: beech brook) and runs parallel to the hiking trail for a while through cool mixed beech forest. Fish otters, crested newts, and brook lampreys feel at home in the near-natural river. After some changes in direction, it continues through the forest to the Silberquelle. Very close by is the Diebesgrund. In earlier times, the robber Habakuk Schmauch is said to have had his hideout here; he relieved heavily loaded merchant trains on the nearby Magdeburg military road of their possessions. 💰

Old beeches, toppled giant trees, and impressive deadwood trunks line the path and make the attentive hiker marvel. You cross a plank causeway dry-footed through the swampy hollow. Shade-giving trees accompany your path to the Fauler See – including valuable habitat trees marked with a sign. At the lake, a busy beaver family causes a continuous enlargement of the lake by damming the water. The countless dead tree stumps protruding from the water create a bizarre scenery. 🦫

After passing the Fauler See behind you, it is not far to Kirchmöser and to the endpoint of the hike at the train station. 🚉

    Tip from @Wanderjenosse Sandra:
Don’t miss the short detour to the Mühlenberg in Kirchmöser! The short climb to the observation tower is rewarded with a postcard panorama over the Brandenburg lake landscape. Station 8 of the Royal Prussian Optical Telegraph Line Berlin–Koblenz once stood on the Mühlenberg. ⛰️
