Varied route, between alpine and pre-alpine areas of woods, mountain pastures and typical villages
The 3 Valleys (3V) hiking itinerary is named after the three valleys it crosses: Malone Valley, Tesso Valley and Lanzo's Great Valley. It is a varied route that passes through pre-alpine and alpine ridges, touching some inhabited centers and then unfolding mainly through wooded areas and middle-altitude mountain pastures. In some sections it reaches high mountain altitudes, with panoramic views of the peaks that separate the Lanzo Valleys from the Orco Valley and the Locana Valley. The stops offer various opportunities, from small tourist facilities to private shelters and high-altitude bivouacs. The routes follow well-marked paths, white roads for the mountain pastures and forest tracks, accessible without equipment from May/June to October, but the length and elevation gain of some stages require a good level of training. Although the stages run from east to west, progressively increasing in altitude, the choice of direction is absolutely free, taking into consideration that the sections tend to be uphill when going east to west, while in the opposite direction the stages require gradually less effort and fatigue.
The route partially connects to the Alta Via Canavesana, allowing connections towards the Locana Valley and Gran Paradiso Park, while at the western end it joins the GTA and Alta Via delle Valli di Lanzo itineraries, also allowing extensions towards the southwest with the Bessanese Tour and France.
