Sentiero Balcone Monregalese
Path of art, nature, culture, crossing alpine areas, hills and plains
The Sentiero Balcone Monregalese is a hiking trail that connects various existing routes, offering an interesting tourist, naturalistic and cultural experience. It extends through different landscapes, from alpine areas to plains and hills, with altitudes ranging from 305 meters to 2382 meters above sea level.
The valleys crossed are characterized by numerous watercourses, tributaries of major rivers such as the Ellero, Maudagna, Corsaglia, Casotto, Roburentello, and Tanaro. Along the route, one encounters sites of naturalistic, geological, anthropic, and historical-artistic significance, some directly on the trail and others reachable with short detours.
Among the points of interest along the Sentiero Balcone Monregalese are the Bossea cave, the Caudano and Dossi caves, the alpine and Ligurian Alps karst system, Pianfei lake, the ancient Certosa di Casotto, royal palace and hunting estate of King Vittorio Emanuele II, the Sanctuary of Vicoforte, and the archaeological sites of the Monregalese Valleys. Additionally, there are numerous chapels and votive pillars, charming historic centers such as Mondovì Piazza, Prea, Villavecchia, La Prà, Fontane, Pamparato, and Valcasotto, as well as alpine hamlets and buildings that testify to the local building tradition in the Corsaglia, Maudagna, and Ellero valleys.
