The sentier des Roches, also known as the Felsenpfad or Strohmeyerpfad, is a hiking trail in the Vosges mountains that links the Col de la Schlucht with Frankenthal, near the Hohneck.
Created in the early 1910s, it is partly carved out of the rock and features a number of stairways and footbridges. It is one of the best-known and most popular trails in the Vosges mountains.
A circuit that will delight the most demanding hikers.
Author’s recommendation
Be careful in wet weather, as some sections can be very technical and dangerous.

Roadbook
Start from the parking lot.
Walk back along the road towards Munster. Access to the rock path is on your right 100m after "le chalet".
After a short descent, at a fork in the road, take the hillside path which leads to much steeper slopes. You'll discover an itinerary boldly carved out of the vertiginous escarpments of the eastern slopes of the Hautes Vosges.
After 3 kilometers, the "sentier des Roches" leads to the Krappenfels collet at the end of a breathtaking route. A short distance on, you come to a fork in the road and climb the "sentier de l'Empereur" to the "trois fours" pasture, which you reach under the cover of the trees.
At the end of the forest, 200m after a lookout post dating back to the 14-18 war, you come to the majestic Frankenthal cirque, carved out of the Hohneck massif by glaciers. Climb 20m on your right to the "trois fours" lookout.
From here, follow the beech forest to a tarmac path and a sign for "col de la Schlucht".
The return path follows the edge of the pasture before entering the summit beech forest and taking you back to the Schlucht.
A final viewpoint on your right offers an unobstructed view of the valley and the peaks you've crossed.
