Seespitz from Gleinkersee
We start from the parking lot below Gleinkersee and hike along hiking trail no. 292 or 299 on the northern shore of the lake. Shortly before the rear end of the lake, we turn right onto the marked hiking trail towards Dümlerhütte and climb steeply up a partly rocky path into the Seegraben. After about 1 hour, we take the left fork and walk in switchbacks up the slope towards Seespitz. In a large curve, we reach the alpine pasture of Weierbaueralm and walk flatly over it to the summit cross.
Descent same as ascent.
The hike to Seespitz through the Seegraben offers an easy ascent to a very striking viewpoint peak on the eastern edge of the Totes Gebirge. The path is often slippery in the lower part of the Seegraben and leads us through the forest up to flat alpine pastures and to the short summit ridge with its great view down to Gleinkersee and to the valley basin of Windischgarsten.
In the area of the alpine pastures, there is a forest area heavily damaged by storms and bark beetles with a lot of deadwood.
The hike can be nicely combined with a swim in the lake and a visit to the inns by the lake.
Author’s recommendation
Gleinkersee is warm enough for swimming in summer and boat rides are also possible.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Shortly before the rear end of the lake, we turn right onto the marked hiking trail towards Dümlerhütte and climb steeply up a rocky path into the Seegraben. After about 1 hour, we take the left fork (sign 1150m: Dümlerhütte 1 hour) and walk in switchbacks up the slope towards Seespitz. After another half hour, we reach at an altitude of 1410 m the junction of the hiking trail towards Wurzeralm (Stubwiesalm). The signs only point towards Seespitz and Gleinkersee. We continue climbing straight up and reach in a curve the alpine pasture with the Weierbaueralm. Now it goes over flatter terrain (once briefly downhill) to the short summit ridge and to the summit cross of Seespitz.
The descent path leads us back on the same route.
