The Schlosswald-Weihermühle-Weg leads through idyllic valleys and through the Schlosswald on the Sickinger Höhe, where there is much to discover.
The starting point is in Wallhalben. At the town's exit is the Landgrafen Mill. The hike begins on the main street, from which you turn into Schulstraße. Close along the Wallhalb, you walk on a level path south. The Kneispermühle is soon reached. It is worth stopping there. Then you decide which direction to take: continue along the valley or cross the sandstone bridge through the forest opposite. Since it is a circular route, nothing is missed, and the path continues along the Wallhalb to a wooden bridge about 400m further. Behind the bridge, the path goes left up into the forest to a crossroads, where on the return you go straight back to the Kneispermühle. But first, you keep right and follow the ascending forest path towards the Weihermühle. After crossing the district road, the path leads down into the valley. Along the edge of the forest, the Landhotel Weihermühle is reached.

Safety information
General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees can still fall or branches can break off afterward. Particularly in adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or rails. Sure-footedness is required in places. You should expect such trail impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures due to forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the signs for your own safety.

Roadbook
Hiking on the Schlosswald-Weihermühle-Weg is special in several ways: besides the landscape experience, we can expect culinary delights, cultural-historical testimonies, and a short excursion into European history. We chose Wallhalben as the starting point. Here, at the town's exit towards Mittelbrunn, is the former Landgrafen Mill, which today houses a hotel with a restaurant. But the hike actually starts at the main street, from where we turn into Schulstraße. We pass the impressive Catholic church perched above us on a rock. Close along the Wallhalb stream, we hike on a broad, level forest path heading south. Time and again, the meandering stream catches our eyes, and it is easy to imagine the importance of the Wallhalb for the 13 mills (including the Weihermühle) that were once located in this valley and thus for the entire population. The stream even once formed the border between Germany and France. The Kneispermühle with its beer garden under ancient chestnut trees is soon reached. It’s worth stopping there to taste regional specialties. There, we consider which direction to take: continuing along the valley or across the sandstone bridge through the forest opposite. Since it is a circular route, nothing is missed, and so we continue along the Wallhalb to a wooden bridge about 400m before the Rosselmühle. Behind the bridge, we hike left up into the forest and reach a fork where on the return trip we will go straight back to the Kneispermühle. But first, we keep right here and follow the ascending forest path towards the Weihermühle. After crossing the district road, the path leads down into the valley through which the Schauerbach flows. Consistently along the edge of the forest with views of the stream, we reach the idyllic Weihermühle. The entire trail is 22.4 km long; however, the hike can be individually tailored through various entry points. Suitable starting points also include the Kneispermühle and Weihermühle, shortening the hike to 16.5 km. The Kneispermühle circular route is even only 7.2 km long.

Equipment
For our hikes, we recommend the following standard equipment:
Sturdy footwear
Clothing adapted to the weather
Sun and rain protection
Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always opportunities to eat or shop everywhere or they might be closed.
Even though the trails are very well marked throughout, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map so that, for example, you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.
