22 km circuit in the Salm territory, forest, peat bogs, Coucou pond, Salm castle, Chatte Pendue with views over Alsace, Haute Loge, a cheese dairy, moorlands. Many viewpoints.
Note that there are several possible access points either by the Prayé pass or the Coucou pond parking or the Salm forest house parking.

From the Prayé refuge, climb the road to the Payé pass (1.1km). At the pass, take the path to the right for 70m, then the trail to the left for 480m. Upon reaching the top, descend the trail to the left for about 70m, then turn right, you arrive at the bottom of the rock where crosses are carved, some dating from the Carolingian era. If you are alert, you can follow the traces that climb to the right on the rock, otherwise turn back and return to the rock.
Take again the trail marked by a green disk/blue cross descending into the forest, second right. After 800m, on the right at 90° at 50m, an old peat bog with a cliff further away. Return to the green disk/blue cross trail.
Continue the trail to the right. At the intersection with a forest path, go straight ahead and follow the green disk/blue cross marks for about 540m. You reach a path, take right for about 950m then continue straight on the green disk/blue cross trail for 180m. At the crossroads, take the left path marked with a green disk for 110m (altitude 819), then take right then right again, path descending (green disk). Take the path to the right for 720m marked green disk, keep left, at the crossroads the path straight ahead slightly to the left, you pass beside a hunters' chalet on the left, then descend on the path to the left for 680m. Take the left steep path still marked green disk. You arrive at the Maxe peat bog. Follow the green disk path for about 360m then take left the steep trail, you arrive at the Coucou pond. Take the paved road to the right, the pond is on the right, after the left bend, take the path to the right along the road, follow it for 1.2 km, rejoin the road, take right and you will notice a parking on the left. 60m past this, an old Mennonite cemetery. Return to the road, before the forest house take right the path, then right the trail still green disk, at 340m intersection with a path turn left then immediately right, continue on the ascending trail to the Salm castle.
Follow for 300m still the trail marked green disk, cup marked rock, cross the forest road of the lords, follow trail marked green disk and GR 532 (yellow rectangle), go around the Tête Pelée, you pass altitude 835, arranged passage over the fence, you enter the biological reserve and climb to the Chatte Pendue, panoramic view. Descend the other side, leave the reserve, join a green disk path. Continue on this marking, take right then the trail to the left until joining the path. Take left then the path to the right, follow right still marked GR532 and green disk, follow for 860m, just before the crossroads cut left for a few meters and turn left on the Passeurs path, pass the stele dedicated to the 1914-1918 prisoners who built the path, Alsace-Vosges border, leave the GR to the left, continue with the green disk, at the crossroads take right the path for 320m. Arrived at the crossroads:
You can either go to the Haute Loge, for this take the path left for 170m then the trail that climbs right until the Haute Loge, panoramic 360° view, return backwards to the previous path marked green disk.
Or you continue on the green disk/red cross path for 310m then turn right on the trail, pass near the cheese dairy, follow the green disk/red cross trail for 2.3 km, cup marked rocks on the left. Continue for 400m, take path to right then second path to left marked green disk/red cross/blue ring. About 240m on the left edge of the path you can observe clubmosses. At the next path, take right marked green disk/red cross/blue ring for 480m, you reach a paved road, take left for 150m, you have arrived.
