The start and finish of the Rumberg-Steig is the village square of Ludwigswinkel. The orange marking leads through the former military area Area1, in a steep ascent to the summit of Rumberg. On the elongated ridge of Rumberg, it continues past the five tower-like Rumberg rocks Ostfels, Lochfels, Wespenfels, Habichtsfels, and Kastenfels. After a valley section, a narrow path leads up to Guggebühl, a mountain with a mighty rock massif on the east side. From here, Rumberg-Steig runs parallel to the Wasgau-Seen-Tour, the popular premium hiking trail in the Sauer valley. The last stretch of the hike idyllically runs along several ponds and the Rösselsquelle back to the starting point.

Safety information
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes on the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop. In adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery sections can occur on natural paths. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. Expect such trail impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should bypass them. Despite the "unmistakable" marking of premium trails, we recommend always having a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons so that you can quickly find a safe area during a thunderstorm or emergency.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures due to forestry work or hunting communities on this platform. However, situations can occur where hiking trails are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you encounter closures or detours on site, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

Roadbook
The start and finish of our hike is the center of the spa town Ludwigswinkel. From the village square, we always follow the orange marking: Rumberg-Steig. It goes over Landgrafenstraße, past the town hall housing the Daniel-Theysohn-Foundation and the children's teaching garden, and then through the valley meadow to Petersbächler Straße. This is crossed, and a narrow path leads us to Fabrikstraße. At the "Zollhof," a listed building complex, we keep to the left and follow Fabrikstraße to the edge of the forest. Here we enter an area of the former Fischbacher Army Depot on a 680 ha site, which served as a special weapons storage of the US Army from 1956 to 1994. But don't worry, the depot has long been cleared, and only the watchtower, which you will see after a few hundred meters, is one of the last witnesses of that time.
To the right of the watchtower, a small circular trail with information boards begins, giving you insight into the former depot.
However, we keep left and walk a short stretch on the former military road, from which we then turn right towards Rumberg. From here, we definitely understand why the hiking trail is called a "Steig". First, we stay on the steep wide path and then switch right to an old path that our "retirees" have cleared again to reach the summit of Rumberg.
On the elongated ridge of Rumberg, we pass many rock formations, and occasionally there is an interesting view of the Palatinate Forest and the Northern Vosges.
Suddenly, the first of five spectacular, tower-like Rumberg rocks appears out of nowhere. Known as Ostfels, Lochfels, Wespenfels, Habichtsfels, and Kastenfels, they were popular climbing rocks before they disappeared into the special weapons depot and nearly faded into oblivion. Our path now leads downhill past the Spitzenfelsen to the valley, which we soon leave again to climb up a narrow path to the "Guggebühl". After leaving the mountain with the mighty rock massif on the east side, our hiking trail runs parallel to the "Wasgau-Seen-Tour," a popular premium hiking trail in the Sauer valley. It leads us past the Rösselsweiher, the Rösselsquelle, and the Sägmühlweiher, and back to our starting point.
