The mighty Riegerin is one of the most rewarding destinations on the north side of Hochschwab; the longer approach into the Brunntal should not deter from this beautiful hike.

Safety information
The route partly leads on unmarked paths but is marked with cairns and paint dots. In the area of the Rotmäuer the path is quite exposed but well secured with ropes. Surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely necessaryRoadbook
Relatively flat on the road about 3.5 km into the broad Brunntal until you can shorten the road bend on the left via a forest path (cairn). You can also continue on the road to the second bend. From the second bend the distinct path steeply leads through forest up to the rock face of the Rotmäuer, which is overcome via a ramp with steps and rope protections. Above the rock belt on the forest path to the hunting hut near the Riegerin Alm and through a hollow partly on meadow areas to the final ascent. Over the steep southwest slope to the summit ridge and over this – sometimes stony – to the panoramic summit. Descent via the ascent route.
