Rostocker Heide circular route
Explore Germany's largest coastal forest
With about 6000 hectares, the Rostocker Heide is the largest German coastal forest. In combination with the iodine-rich sea air, it forms an exceptionally refreshing bioclimate. This effect caused Graal-Müritz to become the first German seaside spa just over a hundred years ago. This circular route leads along shaded forest paths through a varied coastal, forest, and moor landscape.

Roadbook
The hike begins at the pier of the Baltic Sea spa Graal-Müritz. On it, you can stroll 350 meters out over the sea with dry feet. From there, the view wanders over the endless fine Baltic Sea beach and the storm-shaped coastal forest. Along the paved promenade, hikers are accompanied by installations of the "MAGNIFICENT" plants and animals of the sea.
The path leads behind the dunes towards Dierhagen and after about 1 km into the deep green forest. Here begins the Great Moor, one of the most interesting coastal raised bogs in Germany. A moor circular path winds through the nature reserve. The primeval-like fresh green alder groves and pine moor forests are home to the scarlet dragonfly, the otter, and the moor frog.
Continuing over the "New Moor Path" to the small forest settlement Neuheide. At the "Forest and Moor Information Center," visitors experience the diversity of the unique landscape of the coastal forest. In the immediate vicinity, a private museum with "Paradise Garden" and "Natural Treasure Chamber" invites you to pause and take a tour. Hundreds of native animal, plant, and fungal species can be admired in the fascinating exhibition.
Through the dense forest of the Rostocker Heide, the path leads to the Cross Oak. One of the thousand-year-old oaks that can be admired in the Rostocker Heide. From here, the route continues via the Börning and Natheiden glades back towards Graal-Müritz. The last section is characterized by varied forest scenes.
