The route consists of different sections: 1) Initially, it goes without major highlights toward the Roßberg ridge. Then follows the adventurous part, where you go pathless to the ridge and enjoy a nice ridge hike to the summit of the Roßberg. The initial descent is also in pathless terrain. 2) Then continue to Neuscharfeneck Castle. Slightly above, there is a beautiful viewpoint over the Palatinate Forest, the Rhine plain, and all the way to the Vosges. Then you reach the top viewpoint "Drei-Burgen-Blick" with views of the Annweiler castle trio and over the Palatinate Forest. Finally, you visit one of the oldest castles of the Palatinate Forest, the Meistersel castle ruins. From there you get a magnificent view over the Palatinate Forest. Types of paths: 30% trail / pathless, 70% forest roads. Orientation: no continuous hiking signs on the trails (those unfamiliar with the area need GPS / map). Roßberg crossing: partly pathless terrain. Dining: PWV hut Drei Buchen is near the parking lot: https://www.dreibuchen-ramberg.de
Author’s recommendation
1) There are 2 top photo spots for sunsets on the route. 2) No dining options on the route: bring sufficient provisions. 3) Neuscharfeneck Castle can only be visited on guided tours on a few days due to restoration until approximately 2025.

No objective hazard points. According to the SAC hiking scale, it is rated T1 for safety. However, since the Roßberg crossing is partly pathless and on barely identifiable paths, basic orientation skills are essential; a T3 rating may also be justifiable.Tips and suggestions
More about Meistersel Castle: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Meistersel More about Neuscharfeneck Castle: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_NeuscharfeneckRoadbook
First, follow the "Pfälzer-Weinsteig (PWS) / Pfälzerwald blue bar" to the trail marker "Dreimärker." Then turn right onto an unmarked forest road and go uphill for about 500 m. Next, turn right on the forest road and continue uphill for about 300 m. Now leave the forest road and ascend about 400 m on a barely visible trail / partly pathless to the ridge of the Roßberg. Follow the ridge of the Roßberg for 400 m in pathless terrain to the summit. There, turn left and descend about 400 m in pathless terrain until you reach an unmarked forest road. Follow this road towards Rödelstein and continue to the Neuscharfeneck castle ruins. From there, return to the parking lot via the "Saar-Pfalz-Weg." Ascend 400 m on the "Drei-Burgen-Weg." Leave the trail to the right and go directly to the Meistersel castle ruins. Return to the starting point on the same route. WARNING: the Roßberg crossing does not follow official trails but is partly pathless / partly a weakly visible path....
