Romantic Fox Route

Starting from the sports center Untermerzbach, follow the "Fox Route" initially to the north. After a few hundred meters, the path leads down into the valley and then meets the Obermerzbach-Gereuth road, which we follow in the direction of Gereuth. After about 400 m, you reach the district road, which you follow again northward towards Gereuth.

In Gereuth, the road passes the New Castle and the Old Castle / Church. At the fork in the road, the hiking trail goes south along the castle park until it turns west into the wide valley. Follow the path to its northern branch. At an old sandstone cross, you come to the Gereuth-Kurzewind district road. We follow this briefly uphill; along a small forest, signage (from here identical with the "Rückert Path") leads to the "Panorama Path" towards Buch (a small detour to the Gereuth Spring offers a rest with a view of Banz Monastery and the pilgrimage church Vierzehnheiligen).

After passing through the village of Buch, the path turns at the nearby forest edge and leads through the forest in the historic former landscape park "Gereuther Tannen", which Friedrich Rückert once visited. The path leads down the mountain at the "Rückert Stones." After leaving the forest, the path leads to Wüstenwelsberg and from there downhill to Obermerzbach. Here is the Romanesque church "St. Michael."

The district road now leads south towards Untermerzbach. About 300 m after leaving the town, take the marked branch of the hiking trail, which leads through the center of Untermerzbach back to the nearby starting point.
