Touristik & Freizeit Sankt Wendeler Land
We hike on historic paths through magnificent dense forests and the mystical swampy moor landscape of the "Oberthaler Bruch". The Rötelstein path repeatedly offers picturesque views of the still young Nahe river at this point and passes various relics from ancient times.
Over 14 kilometers, the Rötelstein path leads through forests, lonely ravines, and picturesque stream valleys around the summit of the 512-meter-high "Leisberg". The name of this route goes back to iron oxide-containing claystones, also called "Rötel", which were mined for many centuries in this area and were used to produce utility and artists' paints. At several information points along the route, hikers are provided with interesting details about the extraction and use of Rötelstein.

Attention:
Entering the forest and walking the hiking trails is fundamentally at your own risk!
Due to seasonal and weather factors, increased surefootedness is required on certain trail sections. Please wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate soles adapted to the season and weather. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. During strong winds as well as in winter due to snow and ice, the danger from falling trees and crown parts increases.

Roadbook
We start at the hiking parking lot Güdesweiler, turn right into a forest area and over the restored Way of the Cross in Güdesweiler. Then it steadily goes downhill over meadows and forest paths to the main street in Güdesweiler. Two restaurants in the village center invite hikers to refresh after the route. At the church in Güdesweiler, we walk along the street. At the building of a kindergarten, the path turns into a trail. It goes through the forest, past the ponds of Güdesweiler. Over forest paths and trails, it goes uphill to the Scheuerberg and its summit cross with magnificent views over Oberthal and to the Schaumberg summit.
It continues along idyllic streams up to the Momberg plateau. From a wider forest path, it goes right uphill towards the hill. The path winds in switchbacks to the rest area with the beautiful panoramic view over the Sankt Wendeler Land. We walk a stretch over the remains of the Celtic ring fort and reach the river of the young Nahe. We accompany the Nahe along its riverbed through the nature-protected moor landscape 'Oberthaler Bruch' and climb from the Nohmühle into wooded heights. On various sections of the Rötelstein path, there are boundary stones that are silent witnesses of historical changes and border adjustments.
The cultural-historical significance is enjoyed by the Valentins Chapel with the legendary Good Well, and then we arrive again at the starting point.
