Terroir: The term stands for the entire natural environment in which the wine is created. Here at the Kiedricher Gräfenberg, you can truly see, feel, smell, and taste the terroir.
From the starting point, stroll a bit through the alleys of Kiedrich to the charming marketplace. It's worth a look into the churchyard with the Gothic St. Valentinus Church and Michael's Chapel. The path leads through meadows along the gently babbling Kiedrichbach. Up a steep trail, you reach the typical slate cliffs here, leading to Burg Scharfenstein. Panoramic views over the wide vineyards and an inviting picnic spot make the effort worthwhile. The path passes the vineyard of marriage. Since its establishment in 1975, many vines have been planted there for love's sake. Air and climate change pleasantly during the walk along the forest edge. At the wine tasting stand in the valley, you can finally taste the unique terroir and the Rheingau origin.
The Rheingau is the only wine-growing region that has a parcel-precise vineyard classification – the ERSTE GEWÄCHS quality card. Basis for the RGG and the VDP. GROSSES GEWÄCHS® in the Rheingau. The Kiedricher Gräfenberg is also a classified Erste Gewächs vineyard. Other important quality criteria: only hand-selected Riesling and Spätburgunder grapes may become Rheingau Großer Gewächse®. Yield is limited to 50 hl/ha. Must weight and residual sugar content are defined.
