Panorama-rich hike to the mountain inn Galaun and to the chapel on the Riederstein. Also recommended on hot days as most of the path leads through the forest.
The Riederstein, a limestone rock needle, rises high above Lake Tegernsee, its summit is adorned with a small chapel – from here offers an impressive panorama over Lake Tegernsee and the surrounding mountain landscape.
Author’s recommendation
The mountain inn Galaun or the shooting range Tegernsee also offer a hearty opportunity to stop here.

Roadbook
We start the route in Tegernsee at the hiking car park Prinzenweg below the shooting range and walk a stretch up the Alpbachtal. On the right, a stairway begins, which we follow, then we keep left (path 686). At the next junction, the path turns left again, then after a few minutes goes to the right.
We then follow the forest path towards the mountain inn Galaun. It continues through the forest, first flat, then it becomes steeper again after the fork where we keep right.
After a wide left curve, we reach the mountain inn Galaun. Here, a snack offers refreshment and the sun terrace invites you to relax. Only a few meters behind the inn starts the Way of the Cross. It leads, mainly over wooden steps, up to the chapel. Along the way are 14 boards describing the Passion of Christ up to the crucifixion and death. The view over Tegernsee, which can be enjoyed from the chapel on the Riederstein, is stunning. For the return, a small circular route is first recommended, which soon crosses the way back in Galaun. From the mountain inn, the return path leads steeply down towards Rottach-Egern and then about 100 meters above the lake back to Tegernsee on the Leeberghöhenweg (path 686, later 510 to the starting point)
