17.8 km long circular hiking trail through the Sieben Berge.
This approx. 18 km long circular hiking trail leads you from Alfeld through the forest-rich area of the Sieben Berge. Great views over the Leinebergland await you.
From the hiking car park in Alfeld, follow first the red Hödeken, a dwarf-like legendary figure of the region, uphill towards Himmelberg. Once at the top, the Himmelberg tower beckons with its dreamlike view. After 119 steps, you can enjoy, in good weather, views of the town of Alfeld, over the Sieben Berge ridge up to the Brocken in the Harz Mountains.
Next, continue to the Adamishütte, a shelter and hiking hut with barbecue facilities, inviting you to take a break. Afterwards, the varied path leads through the forested mountain landscape along Heim, Lauen, Osten, and Saalberg.
At Brüggen, there is the option to take a short detour to the Hohe Tafel. At 395 meters, the Tafelberg, as it is also called, is the highest of the Sieben Berge. Here too, the Tafelberg tower—a lookout tower—awaits you, offering great views over the forests and wide fields of the Leinebergland. Along the forest edge, you hike back to the starting point, with views of the Leine valley passing through the village of Eimsen.

Tips and suggestions
In spring, wild garlic blooms everywhere in the Sieben Berge, making a hike at this time worthwhile.
The Red Hödeken is one of five Hödeken routes.
The Hödeken, named after his felt hat (Hüdekin, little hat), which he always wore, is a legendary figure from the Leinebergland. The Hödeken is a dwarf-like figure who acted as a messenger delivering news between Hildesheim and Winzenburg.
The path between Winzenburg and the Hildesheim Cathedral, which the Hödeken used, is called the "Rennstieg."
