Pointe de 4 Cantons
A varied and very secluded hike leads to the summit of Pointe de 4 Cantons, which offers a surprisingly good view.
Although the small rocky plateau at the summit is surrounded by forest on all sides, it nevertheless offers a very beautiful view to the north over the chain of the Maritime Alps. The summit is also an excellent spot to rest and linger.
In the lower and middle part of the ascent, especially many orchids bloom in spring. Several species of marsh orchids as well as the bird's-nest orchid can be found there.
A walk through the medieval village of Bairols after the hike is worthwhile; like many villages in the Maritime Alps, it is largely car-free “by nature.” If you are lucky, a small inn may even be open in the village.

Lauvet d’IlonseRoadbook
At the last hairpin bend below Bairols, a hiking trail branches off (signpost "Pointe de 4 Cantons"), crosses the stream and then ascends with switchbacks on the other side. On an old stone path, you gently walk higher and reach a forest road, which you follow to the left. Shortly after the first right turn, a inconspicuous cairn points to an old path branching off to the right. You first follow this trail for a short distance parallel to the forest road and along yellow markings, to reach a saddle after a forest section where a signpost "Pointe de 4 Cantons" points to the right. A short stretch goes uphill on a gravel track up to a T-junction, where you keep left and shortly after meet another signpost to the right. A faint and inconspicuous path leads through heavily eroded terrain, where GPS and a track are very helpful. The route initially runs a little left of the ridge and then reaches it somewhat further up. Soon the path marked by cairns becomes more distinct again and continues uphill exactly along the ridge. A rock tower is bypassed on the right, then you reach light mixed forest where the path splits. You follow the left branch (cairn!), which leads into a slope and later becomes flatter in the light mixed forest. Finally, it goes uphill again over a rocky clearing and into the forest at the top (cairns). At a distinctive rock in the middle of the forest, the path reaches a ridge and turns 90 degrees to the left there. On this ridge, you ascend to the summit, which offers a surprisingly beautiful view north to the chain of the Maritime Alps.
For the return, follow the ascent route.
