Southern Burgenland and Bad TatzmannsdorfRoadbook
The tour begins at the hiking trailhead near the main square in Bernstein. Along the approximately 5.5-kilometer-long, very well-marked route, you will gradually encounter the eight planets of our solar system. The planet models are arranged in exact proportions of size and distance on a scale of 1:1.1 billion. The models are made of Edelserpentin and are each mounted on large serpentine boulders bearing information about the respective planet.
As the distance from the Sun increases, so do the distances between the individual planets. This makes it impressively clear while hiking just how vast our solar system actually is.
The trail winds through the diverse landscape of Bernstein, home to the Edel Serpentine and Nature Park. At the end of the hike, another special highlight awaits: the Sun at the Bernstein Rock Museum. This iron sculpture, measuring approximately 1.26 meters, marks the end of the family-friendly loop trail, which is paved throughout.
