The Öttlberg is one of the few peaks that can be reached on foot from Hinterstoder with moderate effort. The unmarked hunting trail becomes steeper upwards and ends at a forest road. The last 180 meters in altitude to the summit must be covered off-trail.

Ascent: 740 meters, 2:00 hrs.
On the forest road towards Polsterlucke / Prielschutzhaus, after 500 m turn right towards Öttl, 150 m before the Öttl farm a forest road goes left uphill into the forest. At the last left bend, the unmarked Reitsteig begins. The narrow path is already somewhat overgrown here, so you have to look carefully.
Up this path in switchbacks uphill to a forest road at 1150 m. Here, briefly to the right and then 180 m off-trail over a clear-cut area and in the forest to the lonely summit of the Öttlberg (1342 m).
Descent: 1:30 hrs.
Return by the same route. (The alternative descent west over the long forest road is lengthy and hot in summer.)

Train to Hinterstoder station, then continue with bus line 431 to Hinterstoder, stop "Schiederweiher".
Directions
A9 Pyhrn motorway exit St. Pankraz/Hinterstoder and from there to Hinterstoder. From the church 1.5 km towards the end of the valley to the first parking lot ("Priel parking lot", paid).
