Scenic route over the Derdinger Horn through the typical Kraichgau landscape with vineyards, orchards, forest, and fields.

The circular route begins directly at the wine plateau at the "Derdinger Horn" with a magnificent view over the Kraichgau to the Odenwald. Here is a wine educational trail with a vine calendar, providing much knowledge about viticulture. Along the vineyards, past impressive dry stone walls, it goes to the Bernhardsweiher lake, a peaceful small forest pond once created by Cistercian monks. After a short stretch through the forest, you reach a paved natural staircase, and along the forest edge, it continues to the viewpoint "Rodel"; a hill bench invites you to linger while enjoying the view towards the Palatinate Forest and Black Forest. Further along the path, you reach the geological window, which, like a slice of cake, offers insight into the layer sequences of the Middle Keuper and shows the structure of Stromberg and Heuchelberg.

Those who want to take a short break beforehand can linger at the barbecue and shelter hut on the forest edge before the path descends back to the wine plateau.

    Author’s recommendation

From the "Horn" barbecue hut, a detour along the forest adventure trail is worthwhile, especially recommended for children.

    Safety information

    We recommend sturdy footwear

On natural path sections, there is a risk of slipping when wet. After storms and bad weather, we recommend staying outside the forests.

Please stay on the designated paths, do not cross any forestry closures. There is a danger to life.

Carry a mobile phone with emergency numbers. Bring enough fluids, as there are not comprehensive refreshment options available.

Especially in autumn, note that leaves on the ground, unevenness, roots, stones, or holes may be hidden on the path. Expect such path impairments.

Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always have a suitable hiking map with you.

Please be considerate of each other and other forest visitors.
