An easy loop trail at the northern entrance to Schönbuch Nature Park, along the Ochsenbach stream
The Ochsenweiher Loop Trail begins at the Franzensträßchen parking lot, right off the B464. A few meters from the parking lot, we come to a gate, which we pass through. Shortly after that, the loop trail forks: to the right, a narrow path leads down to the Ochsenbach, or we can save this beautiful section for the end. We then follow the wide forest road. This takes us along the Ochsenbach, and after about 1 km we reach the Ochsenweiher, which offers lovely places to rest and have a barbecue. We continue to follow the stream (do not turn right after the pond). At the next intersection, we turn right and head slightly uphill. We reach the Altdorfer Pflanzhütte, which offers rest and barbecue facilities. Here, a sign explains the historical significance of the “Via Rheni” trade route and its connection to the “Schnapseiche.” From there, we follow the trail northward until the fork at the Alten Bannwaldsträssle. There, we turn right again and, after about another kilometer, descend via a narrow path to the Ochsenbach, which we must cross. From there, it’s not far to the starting point at the Franzensträßchen parking lot.
Author’s recommendation
If you hike the loop trail as described above, you'll save the most beautiful part of the trail for last.
