Even in the Middle Ages, the Mühlbach was an important lifeline for the town of Oberkirch. The 16 information boards of the Mühlbach trail show how many companies used the water power for centuries. Other businesses and private individuals took water or disposed of waste in the Mühlbach. Farmers watered their meadows with the water. The Mühlbach also served as a swimming pool and playground. And it remains a habitat for animals to this day.

    Roadbook

The Mühlbach trail is a circular route. It has few barriers and is also suitable for cyclists. Only in a few places do you have to push your bike. The trail starts below the swimming pool at Strandbadweg and follows the industrial canal downstream. Past the back of the paper mill and the former paper mill Koehler as well as the oil stamp Ihringer, you reach the Bachschlenker at Südring. Here you can dangle your feet in the Mühlbach. The trail continues through Oberkirch’s old town with the picturesque stream area. Children can shortly afterwards romp on the playground at Scheffelplatz. Then you have the option to shorten the trail via Eisenbahnstraße and Renchallee. If you continue following the Mühlbach trail, you reach the site of the former Parisel oil mill via the street Am Mühlbach. From there, the trail leads west along the slaughterhouse. Via Appenweierer Straße, you finally reach the Rench and return to the starting point via the Rench dike.
