The approximately 2.5 km long walking path goes around and through the grounds of the Grafschaft monastery.
A total of 68 meters in elevation must be overcome, about 100 m of the path have a gradient of more than 10%, and for around 200 m it goes just as steeply downhill. The pure walking time is a good half hour. Many benches - some with a nice view - are along the path, which overall is no more than a short walk but offers numerous insights into the current activities within the monastery walls. The path is mostly asphalted and therefore usable with any footwear, also suitable for wheelchair users.

Roadbook
After taking a look at the hiking signboard, we walk on the footpath to the northern entrance of the monastery grounds, the medieval Agatha Gate for the people of Grafschaft. This way we avoid a longer walk along the main road and get to know the monastery grounds from the inside. After just under 100 m, we turn right and leave the monastery grounds through the large archway - the Tannen Gate - turning left towards the west. Since our path does not belong to the Schmallenberger Sauerland hiking trail network, we pay attention to the black plaques that the Grafschaft-Schanze tourist association has placed in many locations.
Behind the archway, the asphalted road goes slightly uphill. We bypass the private property on the west side. At the next two forked paths, we choose the left path each time. The path always gently ascends. After a total distance of 1 km, our walk merges into a cross path. Apart from a few meters in elevation, we have now already completed the ascents on the monastery path. The view stretches far towards Schmallenberg and the Wilzenberg at 658 m. The monastery complex lies in the foreground.
We follow the path to the left about 70 m to the north and then turn right onto a path bordered by a row of trees on the northern side, which only gently inclines. At 465 m here is the highest point of the monastery path. A tight hairpin leads us into the narrow valley of the Stameske. We follow the trail markings and cross the Stameske stream. We have already reached the edge of the built-up area and follow the street “Am Stünzel” for a short distance.
The Handirkweg joins from the right, which leads to the source area of Grafschaft. A few meters below, the monastery path turns left and we are back on the grounds of the Grafschaft monastery. We continue along the northern edge of the convent pond, which is fed by the Stameske. This stream supplied the monastery kitchen with fresh water in the Middle Ages.
Finally, we leave the monastery grounds by the same path we already know from the way there and reach the starting point in the village center again after about 2.5 km. To conclude the route, we can use the small park in front of the tourist information office for a rest.
