If you set out on the water exhibition trail, you can experience mystical places up close that have played a role in various cultures for millennia.
The route always passes by the Würshäuser Mill and the Biesterfels from the Wallhalb valley through the Meilbächertal. This is the local name for this valley. Accompanied by colorful valley meadows and a forest path, it goes to Herschberg.
The hiking guest is rewarded with a view over the Sickinger Höhe at the sports field. A rest is possible at the Bürgerhalle. From there, it is about two kilometers to the water exhibition trail in the Odenbach valley, where the primal force of water has left a peculiar landscape idyll. The bizarre rock formations, the forest, and the stream enable a hike on the traces of geological history.
Several display panels explain how the Odenbach shaped this valley. Directly next to the hiking trail lie massive sandstone rock deposits. It is just over two kilometers to the Weihermühle, whose construction goes back to the Leininger counts. Today, hikers are served at Landhotel Weihermühle and in the inn “Kleine Mühle”, only 200 meters away.

Safety information
General information:
Especially in autumn, pay attention to the fact that leaves lying on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches can break off afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, paths close to nature can become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you believe certain path sections are impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the indications for your own safety.

Roadbook
The hiking route can be started at the Weihermühle, the mill village Wallhalben (S), or at the Kneispermühle. From the Wallhalb valley, the route constantly passes by the Würshäuser Mill (1) and the Biesterfels (2) through the “Maibächletal”. This is the local name for this valley, where for decades the Herschberg horse race has taken place on a natural racetrack. Accompanied by colorful valley meadows and a quiet forest path, the route goes up to Herschberg, the former village of the Leininger counts.
The hiking guest is rewarded with a panoramic view over the Sickinger Höhe at the latest at the sports field. At the Bürgerhalle (3) a rest and also a round of mini golf are possible for refreshment. From the recreational facility, it is about two kilometers to the water exhibition trail (4) in the Odenbach valley, where the primal force of the water has left a peculiar landscape idyll. The bizarre rock formations of Karlstal sandstone, the forest, and the stream enable a hike on the “traces of geological history”. Scientists speak of the “sphere rock horizon”, where according to popular belief, Knight Franz von Sickingen once had the large stone spheres collected for his cannons.
Several display panels explain how the Odenbach shaped this valley in the last 10,000 years. Mainly during the ice ages, the creek created its present wild romantic valley, where numerous natural spectacles can be discovered even on a shortened route starting from the Weihermühle. Directly next to the hiking trail lie hard, massive sandstone rock layers. The intention to preserve untouched nature was the reason for the creation of the first water exhibition trail in Rhineland-Palatinate. Today, this valley belongs to the Wallhalb valley Sickinger Höhe landscape protection area.
Nature experts who advised during the path’s establishment speak of an ecological niche. The diversity of plant and animal life is to be conserved in its existence. It is just over two kilometers to the Weihermühle (5), whose construction goes back to the Leininger counts. They originally had a carp pond there. Today, guests are served at the Weihermühle in the inn “Kleine Mühle”, only 200 meters away. The Weihermühle experience valley also offers children several play opportunities and nature discoveries.

For our hikes, we recommend the following standard equipment:
Sturdy footwear
Weather-appropriate clothing

A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always opportunities to eat or shop available or open.
