Ufficio Turistico Manciano
Manciano Nature Trail
The route is divided into three parts: short, medium, and long with a climb of 850 meters.
The track, which winds in the southern portion of Manciano, is suitable for mountain bikers, hiking enthusiasts as well as for horse riding. Starting from the parking lot on Via Martiri della Libertà go along Piazza Dante Alighieri to via Circonvallazione Sud, then take via delle Fonti to exit the town. For nearly a kilometer, the route overlaps with the road from Grosseto, then splits. From here, after a stretch of flat road the route descends to the river "Elsarella" and after 500 meters turns left to the "Poggio Foco" farm. After about 300 meters, the path splits: going left will bring visitors on the short route, which passes the “Lago Scuro” (an interesting stop for bird watchers). Continuing right on the asphalt road, the path reaches SP 67 "Campigliola". Turn left and after one kilometer, on the right is a local road that should be followed for 2 kilometers.
Here the path splits again: left to the middle path that arrives in Manciano in 1 hour and 30 minutes or right towards the long path, whose course takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete. After a challenging 500 meter climb the path traverses the "Pelagone woods" famous for hunting, especially wild boar. The path also leads to the ruins of Scarceta, also known as “Castellaccio Pelagone", which date from the early 13th century. Once the path reaches the SP. 32 (indicated as 'Manciano-Farnese'), turn right and after about 200 meters turn left. From here follow the Fiora River valley, an area known for its natural features that has been included in the SIR "Flora river high walks". Visitors pass by the remains of the prehistoric village of Scarceta as well as a recently restored hydroelectric plant dating back to 1898. After the Fiora river valley, the road continues uphill for 3.5 km and 200m after passing 'Le Secchete'. Once at the bottom of the hill turn left, follow the road for 2 km, then turn right on a path that returns to SP 37. The course finishes after 500 meters.
